Connect with Audrey Gadzekpo, Lead Communications and Media

Audrey Gadzekpo, Ph.D., is a Professor of Communication Studies at the Department of Communication Studies and former Dean of the School of Information and Communication Studies, University of Ghana. She has close to 30 years of experience in teaching, research and advocacy, primarily on media, gender development and governance issues, and almost 35 years practical experience as a media practitioner.

Her research expertise can be clustered around four principal pre-occupations: 1.) media, democracy and governance; 2.) media and gender;  3.) media histories;  4.) media and developmental challenges, which includes work on health, conflict, climate change and policy communication.  She has published widely in these areas, including contributing chapters to ground-breaking books on gender violence, namely: ‘Breaking the Silence & Challenging the Myths of Violence Against Women and Children in Ghana’ and ‘The Architecture for Violence Against Women in Ghana,’ which were published by the Gender Studies and Human Rights Documentation Centre, Accra and ‘Gender-Based Violence Reporting Handbook’ published by the Centre for Journalism, Innovation & Development (CJID), Abuja, Nigeria.

Aside from teaching mainly journalism and communications-related courses, Professor Gadzekpo has considerable experience engaging in media, gender, governance and behavioural change advocacy work. She has been involved in election monitoring, anti-corruption campaigns and initiatives, empowerment of women initiatives, media development projects and initiatives, and health/environmental issues.
